Your hotel can arrange for you to cast your line with a local guide, but you should bring your own tackle. Experienced captains with Anguilla style fishing boats will take you out for a day of fishing. Many local fishermen will take you out on a charter but do not rent their boats without a captain. Most provide fishing gear for the excursion. Fishing is for the more energetic as it involves catching large pelagic fish such as wahoo, dorado, kingfish, sailfish and marlin plus large reef visitors such as barracuda and grouper. Fishing generally is done by trawling live bait or lures. Trips are usually whole or half-day affairs and drinks and food are provided accordingly. Always remember to ask the fishing charter companies whether you get to keep the fish you catch as, if you get lucky, any local chef's eyes will light up and you will be especially welcome in the restaurant! The area around the island has many fishing opportunites. Along the coast are bottom fishing areas that are fairly shallow. This extends to the reefs out to Seal Island and the Prickley Pear Cays. Beyond Sombrero is where the deep sea fishing occurs. There is also fishing around Scrub, Little Scrub and Anguillita.
